Rash of Break-ins Make Floyd County Residents Feel Unsafe

Updated:

(NEW ALBANY, Ind.) -- Floyd County police are asking residents to lock their doors and hide all valuables because of a month-long string of car break-ins.

Police took reports from around 30 car break-ins in the Woods of Lafayette Sunday night.

Police Chief Frank Loop says the break-ins are part of a recent crime spree, with around 55 reports in the past month.

One theft victim, Victoria Campbell told us, "I felt like it was a safe place to live and now I'm kind of scared to even go outside."

Floyd County Police do not think the crimes are connected because they keep arresting people and the crimes keep happening.

The chief blames the spike on warm weather and summer vacation.

Half of those arrested have been teens.
