1,167 traffic offences in Al Raffa area

DUBAI — Al Raffa Police Station has reported 1,167 traffic violations during October 2005, with wrong parking topping the list. A total of 243 tickets were issued to motorists on the spot with 924 in absentia.

Colonel Maher bin Hayder, head of the Traffic Department at Al Raffa police station, attributed the high number of violations at the station to the instructions that focused on avoiding traffic obstructions and impeding commercial activities in the area.

He revealed that of the total offences, 185 related to obstruction violations, 154 to non-compliance with the specified routes, 96 to parkings at lots specified for people with special needs, 89 to paking in prohibited zones and 54 to traffic obstructions. Besides, 40 tickets were issued for not leaving space between the vehicles, 12 for driving in a ‘do-not-enter’ area, 11 for jumping the red light, 13 for expiry of registration and 19 reverse driving, he added.

Other violations included 30 for parking on the left side of the road, 51 for taking U-turns in prohibited areas, 25 for double parking vehicles, 70 for overtaking in a risky way, three for adding devices to the vehicles without permission, in addition to 57 other traffic violations.
