Fourth arrest over 'ice' shipment

AAP

February 09, 2006 11:06am

A FOURTH man has been charged over the smuggling of $17.5 million worth of crystal methamphetamine, or "ice", into Australia.
The 25-year-old Wiley Park man will face Sydney's Central Local Court today after he was arrested by Australian Federal Police (AFP) in inner-Sydney Glebe last night.

He is the fourth person to be charged over the shipment, which is the fifth largest seizure of the drug made in Australia.

The men are accused of attempting to import almost 46kg of "ice" inside a speedboat that arrived in Sydney from Canada in mid-December in a shipping container.

AFP monitored the container for almost two months before it was transferred to a property in Bringelly, in Sydney's southwest, on Tuesday.

The Wiley Park man has been charged with importing a prohibited import.

The three other men, Jay Heathcote, 25, Luke Burnett, 25, and Ngoc Pham, 23, were arrested earlier this week.

They will next appear in Central Local Court on March 22.
