Mamata can take Bengal to new heights, says Omar
    Herald Globe
    Saturday 28th January, 2012
    (IANS)

Facing flak on the issue of crib deaths and farmers suicides, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Saturday found a new supporter in her Jammu and Kashmir counterpart Omar Abdullah who said Banerjee has it in her to pilot the state to new heights.

"The chief minister (Banerjee) has only just recently taken over. She has her entire term ahead of her. And I'm sure she will do a great job in terms of bringing West Bengal to its rightful place in the hierarchy of states in the country," Abdullah told reporters on the sidelines of the Kolkata Literary Meet.

Banerjee has been at the receiving end of both the opposition Left Front and the alliance partner Congress for being unable to take proper steps in stopping the ongoing trail of farmer suicides.

Banerjee who herself holds the health portfolio, has also received severe criticism for the crib deaths in various state-run hospitals.
