New owner plans changes at Jackson Marine

Marina developer BoatClubsAmerica said it has bought Jackson Marine Center and has disclosed plans to improve the 12-acre site on the New River.
Redevelopment plans for the Fort Lauderdale marina include wet slips and boathouse slips for purchase for more than 300 boat owners.
Naples-based BoatClubsAmerica also renamed the property Fort Lauderdale BoatClub.
"We are very excited to have a marina property in the Fort Lauderdale market," BoatClubsAmerica President Ed Ruff said. "We have completed two marina projects in Naples and have begun construction on a third marina in Fort Myers. We think this market is a perfect match for our boat club concept."
The new owner said the Jackson family will continue to operate their service, parts and repair center. In addition, the seven other marine contractors who operate from the boatyard are to continue to work on site at Fort Lauderdale BoatClub.
"Keeping service on the properties we redevelop is a major component in what we call our boat club formula," Ruff said.
Once renovation is complete, BoatClubsAmerica said it plans to offer 300 boathouse slips for purchase, 14 in-water slips for purchase and 1,000 feet of in-water docking for repair and property operations.
On-property amenities are to include a 4,000-square-foot club house, pool, outside bar area, billiard room, locker room, laundry facilities and owner's lounge with business conference center.
The new service and parts center, plus retail space, is to take up more than 80,000 square feet.
"Once our redevelopment plans are finalized, we will begin to sell the boathouse slips and wet slips," Ruff said. "We anticipate this happening in early 2007."
