Happy Holidays in Hermosa
Singers perform carols Thursday in front of the Christmas tree at Hermosa Beach's Pier Plaza, where a large crowd turned out for the city's annual tree-lighting festivities. After performances by ukulele players and Polynesian dancers, the 25-foot tree was lit and Santa Claus made his arrival on a firetruck.

You didn't know him, not directly anyway. His name was Fred Pettijohn and he died on Oct. 1 in Florida at age 91. During my childhood he was editor of the Fort Lauderdale News and Sun-Sentinel and the father of a good friend.
